Bandwidth Extension of Three-Way Doherty Power Amplifier With Reactance Compensation Using Parallel Peaking Amplifiers

This paper presents a new methodology for designing broadband three-way Doherty power amplifier (DPA), which utilizes reactance compensation generated by parallel peaking amplifiers to extend the bandwidth and improve back-off efficiency. By analyzing load impedance efficiency of reactance-compensated DPA, optimal at output required extension can be obtained. Then, structure using two is proposed reduce desired distribution. Using $\lambda _{0}$ /4 transmission line, sufficiently large branch realized combining point over wider frequency band, compensate effective carrier its bandwidth. A wideband DPA designed fabricated verify method. Measurement results indicate that an 50–53% 10 dB saturated 54–68% achieved range from 1.6 2.7 GHz.
